The hero
The name in stacked gold with ruby inlays, under a jewelled crown and over a scrolled divider, on midnight blue.
Chiselled gold capitals with gems, in stackable layers · v1.000
Gildmark is a serif display face cut like engraved gold: each stroke has a lit side and a shaded side, a dark rim and a polished edge, and a stylistic set drops a gem into every letter. The parts come as separate layer fonts, so the same title can be gold, silver, rose gold, bronze or jade.
Type tester
All seven layers are stacked here in the hero's gold and ruby, with its lit metal and a fine grain. The gems live in Stylistic Set 1, on here as in the art: switch off Jewelled letters for plain gold. Try the other metals, switch Effects off for flat layers, or the layers off for Solid. Lowercase keys type small capitals.

Features
Chiselled gold capitals and small caps in eight layer fonts that stack into lit metal, with a jewelled set and treasure extras for fantasy game titles.
Shadow, Rim, Gold, Light, Dark, Jewels and Shine stack into faceted, lit metal with no bevel effect or plug-in; Solid holds the whole letter for one-colour use.
Every stroke is split into a facet that faces the light and one that turns away, with bracketed serifs, so the letters read as engraved metal.
Stylistic Set 1 swaps in a jewelled version of each letter with the same spacing, and the stones sit on their own layer so they take any colour.
Recolour the layers for gold and ruby, silver and sapphire, rose gold and amethyst, bronze and emerald, or jade and topaz.
Capitals on the uppercase keys and small capitals on the lowercase ones, so a title like The Golden Throne sets with classical proportions.
A medallion, crown, gem, coins, key, chalice, gem ring, laurel, fleuron and two scrolled dividers, typed like letters and drawn in every layer.

Case study
Gold lettering is everywhere in fantasy games: the title over the throne room, the name of a legendary sword, the chapter card before a boss. It's almost always made the same way, a serif typed in a design app and buried under bevel, gradient and texture effects, and then it stays a flat picture that can't be rewritten or translated.
I wanted the metal to be in the letters. If the facets, the rim and the polish are drawn into the font, the gold survives into a game engine, a web page or a menu that changes every week.
I drew Gildmark as a classical capital with bracketed serifs, then cut every stroke in two along its length: one facet that catches the light and one that falls into shade. A thin dark rim frames the whole letter and a bright edge runs along the cut, the way light catches a chiselled arris.
Each of those parts is a layer font: Shadow, Rim, Gold, Light, Dark, Jewels and Shine, from the bottom up. They share every advance and kerning pair, so seven copies of a word stack exactly, and five colours plus a gem colour turn the same title from royal gold into moon silver or old bronze.
Turn on Stylistic Set 1 and every letter gets a round stone set into a stroke, on the bowl of an R, the bar of an A or the stem of an I. The spacing doesn't change, so a title can switch between plain and jewelled without moving a thing.
The stones live on the Jewels layer, so they take their own colour: rubies in gold, sapphires in silver, emeralds in bronze, or a different stone in every letter like the GILDED sample in the layers image.
Fantasy menus need more than letters, so the font carries a crown, a cut gem, a stack of coins, a key, a medallion, a chalice, a gem ring, a laurel sprig, a fleuron and two scrolled dividers. They're drawn in every layer, so a crown stacks into gold with red stones like the title above it.
The lowercase keys type small capitals, and there are tabular figures for gold counts and prices that shouldn't shuffle as they change.

FAQ
Gildmark comes as 8 layer fonts (Shadow, Rim, Gold, Light, Dark, Jewels, Shine, Solid) with the same spacing and kerning. Type the same text in each, stack the copies exactly on top of each other and give each its own colour. Gildmark Solid also works on its own in one colour.
Turn on Stylistic Set 1 (ss01) on all the layers. Each letter switches to its jewelled version, and the stones appear on the Jewels layer, where you can give them their own colour. Spacing and kerning stay the same. The treasure extras have their stones without it.
The facets, rim, polished edges and gems are drawn into the layers, so the metal works anywhere you can stack text, including game engines. The soft gradient and grain on this page are extra fills on the Gold and Light layers, which you can add in a design app or leave flat.
