The hero
The name in glacier-blue ice with snow caps and icicles, on a navy night sky full of falling snow.
Chunky ice letters with snow caps and icicles · v1.000
Frostling is a winter display face of chunky, soft-cornered ice blocks with a pillow of snow on every top, drips running down the front and icicles under every ledge. The ice, the snow and the glints are separate layers, so the same title can be glacier blue, candy-cane red or pine green.
Type tester
All four layers are stacked here in the hero's Glacier Blue, with rounded, grainy ice that pales towards the top and a soft glow on the glints. Try the other colours, switch Snow only on to drop the icicles, or the layers off for Solid.

Features
A winter ice font: chunky soft-square letters with snow caps, icicles and glints, in five layer fonts that stack into glossy ice, plus 12 winter extras.
Shadow, Ice, Snow and Sparkle stack into glossy ice with white snow on top; Solid is the whole letter in a single font.
A soft pillow of snow sits on every top that faces the sky, with little drips running down the front of the ice.
Icicles hang wherever an overhang leaves room, under the bar of a T or the arm of an F, and nowhere they would crowd the next letter.
Stylistic Set 1 keeps the snow and takes away the icicles, for small sizes, buttons and crowded layouts.
A snowflake, snowman, mitten, hot cocoa, pine tree, gift, candy cane, penguin, star and icicle, plus two icy dividers.
389 characters per font with a true lowercase, figures and punctuation, for Western and Central European languages.

Each icon is a character in the font. Click one to copy it, then paste it into anything set in Frostling.
Case study
Every live game gets a winter event, and every winter event needs a logo by next week. Most of them end up as a regular font with a snow brush painted over the top, which looks fine once and can't be reused for the shop banner, the event menu or the reward pop-up.
I wanted snowy ice lettering that types: one font that gives the same frosty look to the event title, the buttons and the countdown, and can be recoloured for the holidays.
Frostling comes apart into the pieces of a frozen letter: a navy Shadow for the outline and depth, the Ice with its icicles, the Snow caps and drips, and the Sparkle glints on top. The four share identical spacing and kerning, so stacked copies land exactly on each other.
Colour the Ice and keep the Snow white, and the same word works in glacier blue, mint, candy-cane red, evergreen or gold, or with a different colour for every letter.
The letters are chunky and soft-square, like blocks cut from a frozen pond, so they stay sturdy under a heavy snow cap. Snow only settles on the tops that face the sky, and icicles only hang where there's a ledge with room underneath.
That can get busy in small text, so Stylistic Set 1 keeps the snow and removes the icicles, which suits buttons, timers and crowded event screens.
The extras are frozen too: a snowflake, a snowman, a mitten, a mug of hot cocoa, a pine tree, a gift, a candy cane, a penguin, a star and a single icicle, plus a short and a long icy divider.
They sit on their usual Unicode codes, with the candy cane on a Private Use code, and they come in every layer, so a stacked snowman or pine tree gets its outline, snow and glints like the letters.

FAQ
Frostling comes as 5 layer fonts (Shadow, Ice, Snow, Sparkle, Solid) with the same spacing and kerning. Type the same text in each, stack the copies exactly on top of each other and give each its own colour. Frostling Solid also works on its own in one colour.
Stack Shadow, Ice, Snow and Sparkle, colour the Ice and keep the Snow and Sparkle white. The marketing art then adds a top-to-bottom gradient, a fine grain and a bevel on the Ice and a soft drop shadow underneath, which you can add in your design app or skip for flatter, cartoon ice.

A game logo has a harder job than a company logo. It has to work as a Steam capsule, an app icon, a 16-pixel favicon, a watermark on a stream and a print on a t-shirt, often in one colour. Here is what makes one survive that, and what it costs to get.
