The hero

Chunky 80s arcade lettering in stackable 3D layers · v1.000
Hyperslab is chunky arcade lettering for title screens, logos and HUDs: heavy blocks with clipped corners, a back plate, a 3D extrusion and glass glints, each in its own layer so you colour them like a cabinet marquee.

All four layers are stacked here in the hero's Sunset colours, with its lit face. Try the other colour stacks, switch Effects off for flat layers, or the layers off for Solid.

Features
Heavy, chamfered 80s arcade letters in five layer fonts that stack into full-colour 3D titles, with tabular scores and arcade symbols.
Outline, Extrude, Face and Shine stack into full-colour 3D lettering with no effects or plug-ins; Solid merges face and depth for one-colour use.
Heavy strokes with clipped corners and a squared-off rhythm, the lettering of cabinet marquees and attract screens.
The extrusion falls down and to the right on every letter and symbol, so a stacked word reads as one solid object.
Tabular figures keep every digit the same width, so scores, timers and combo counters tick over without jumping.
Hearts, stars, position triangles and arrows on their usual Unicode codes, drawn in every layer so they stack in colour too.
Not just capitals: 375 characters per font, with a full lowercase and Western and Central European languages.
Built-in icons
Each icon is a character in the font. Click one to copy it, then paste it into anything set in Hyperslab.
Case study
Retro games love the look of an 80s marquee: thick letters, a hard 3D drop, a chrome glint. Getting it usually means a bevel and extrude plug-in in a design app, and then the look stops at the logo, because no engine can render those effects on a score counter.
I wanted the depth to be part of the type itself, so the same title works in Photoshop, on a website and inside Unity or Godot, and stays recolourable everywhere.
Hyperslab splits each letter into the parts an arcade sign is made of: a dark back plate (Outline), the side of the block (Extrude), the front (Face) and the glints of light on it (Shine). Each is its own font with the same spacing and kerning, so five copies of a word stack exactly.
Because the depth is drawn rather than generated, it always falls the same way, down and to the right, and it never clips into the next letter. Recolour the layers and the same title goes from sunset orange to a green 1UP or a red K.O.
The letters are blocky but they stay readable small, and the figures come in a tabular set so scores and timers don't wobble as they count. The symbols a cabinet needs, hearts, stars, triangles and arrows, sit on their standard codes, so they type straight from a keyboard map.
When one colour is enough, Hyperslab Solid merges the face and depth into a single font for menus, buttons and smaller labels.

FAQ
Hyperslab comes as 5 layer fonts (Outline, Extrude, Face, Shine, Solid) with the same spacing and kerning. Type the same text in each, stack the copies exactly on top of each other and give each its own colour. Hyperslab Solid also works on its own in one colour.
Yes. The depth is the Extrude layer and the glints are the Shine layer, so the 3D works anywhere you can stack text, including game engines. The gradient on the face in the marketing art is a colour fill on the Face layer, which you can add or leave flat.
Yes. Commercial use is included for games, apps, logos, merch, videos, streams and print, with no limit on sales, and you can embed the fonts and bitmap fonts in games and apps for unlimited copies. Products where your customers type their own text, and resale in asset packs, need an extended license: just ask.
Yes. Use the TTF files in any engine that imports fonts, or the included game engine pack: BMFont bitmap fonts at 32, 64 and 128 px for Godot, Unity, GameMaker, LibGDX, Phaser, MonoGame and Love2D.
Yes. WOFF2 web fonts are included, and web use is unlimited, with no cap on page views or traffic.
Each font has 375 characters, covering Western and Central European languages.

A game logo has a harder job than a company logo. It has to work as a Steam capsule, an app icon, a 16-pixel favicon, a watermark on a stream and a print on a t-shirt, often in one colour. Here is what makes one survive that, and what it costs to get.
