The hero
The name in red script with white and navy outlines and a long tail swash, on cream pinstripes.
A connected jersey script in team-colour layers · v1.000
Hotcorner is jersey lettering: a slanted, connected script with heavy downstrokes and hairline joins, made for team names across a chest, sports game menus and retro merch. Stack its layers for the full look, with a block shadow, two outlines and a glossy highlight in your team's colours.
Type tester
All five layers are stacked here in the hero's red, white and navy. Type an underscore after a word and switch on a tail swash, or switch Effects off for flat layers.

Features
A joined sports script with a brush-pen swing, in five layers that stack into jersey lettering with a block shadow, two outlines and a shine, plus tail swashes.
Drop, Border, Outline, Script and Shine share every width and kerning pair, so stacked copies give the classic jersey look: block shadow, two outlines and a highlight.
The Script layer is the whole lettering on its own, for menus, captions and anywhere a single colour is enough.
The lowercase connects by itself, and after o, b, r, v and w the next letter switches to a form that joins from the top, so each word runs as one line.
Type an underscore after a word and turn on Stylistic Set 1, 2 or 3 for a medium, short or long tail sweeping back under it.
Heavy downstrokes, light hairline joins and a steady slant, with script capitals that start on a lead-in hook.
A baseball, a star and an outline star, a trophy, a pennant, a bat, home plate, a badge, a shield and a ball field, plus tabular figures for scores.

Case study
Baseball jerseys have the best lettering in sport: a team name in slanted script across the chest, finished with a tail that sweeps back under the word, and stitched in two or three colours. It's a look that sports games, retro brands and merch keep borrowing.
Getting it right takes more than a script font with a stroke effect. The outlines have to stay even, the shadow has to sit as a solid block, and the letters have to join cleanly, so I built all of that into the type.
Hotcorner is drawn like a brush pen: heavy on the way down, a hairline on the way across, with a lively slant. The lowercase connects on its own, and after o, b, r, v and w the following letter swaps to a version that picks up the join from the top, so every word comes out as one smooth line.
The capitals are script capitals with a lead-in hook, and the figures come in tabular widths too, so a score or a jersey number can tick over without shifting.
On a real jersey each colour is its own piece of cloth. Hotcorner works the same way: Drop is the block shadow, Border the outer outline, Outline the inner one, Script the lettering and Shine the highlight along each stroke. They share every width and kerning pair, so the copies stack exactly.
Give each layer a team colour and the same word turns from red, white and navy into royal blue, kelly green with gold, orange and black, or purple and gold. There's no Solid style here: Script is the one that works on its own.
The tail is typed, not drawn: put an underscore after a word and turn on a stylistic set, and it becomes a swash that runs back under the letters, in a short, medium or long version to fit the name.
The extras are baseball through and through: a ball, two stars, a trophy and a pennant on their usual code points, and a bat, home plate, a badge, a shield and a ball field in the private use area, each drawn in every layer.

FAQ
Hotcorner comes as five layer fonts (Drop, Border, Outline, Script and Shine) with the same spacing and kerning. Type the same text in each, stack the copies exactly on top of each other from Drop at the bottom to Shine on top, and give each its own colour. Hotcorner Script also works on its own in one colour.
Type an underscore right after the word, then turn on Stylistic Set 1, 2 or 3 for a medium, short or long tail. Use the same setting in every layer so the tail stacks like the letters.
The joins are drawn into the letters, so they connect anywhere. The forms that pick up the join from the top after o, b, r, v and w come from contextual alternates, which are on by default in design apps and browsers. Bitmap fonts and engines that don't apply OpenType features show the plain forms instead.

A game logo has a harder job than a company logo. It has to work as a Steam capsule, an app icon, a 16-pixel favicon, a watermark on a stream and a print on a t-shirt, often in one colour. Here is what makes one survive that, and what it costs to get.
